The Bundesjazzorchester (Bujazzo) is the top young jazz orchestra in Germany. For 35 years, the German Music Council has dedicated itself to promoting young German jazz musicians with this ensemble. The Bujazzo is regarded as a valuable link between education and career as well as a talent factory for

In its brand-new programme "Somewhere in the world...", Bujazzo sets selected music from the compensation files of persecuted musicians under National Socialism in the 1930s to music. The artists whose files contained sheet music include Bronisław Kaper, Kurt Lewinnek, Friedrich Holländer and Werner R. Heymann. Based on the piano movements of individual works, the German Music Council commissioned compositions from contemporary jazz musicians. Titles such as "Ich bin von Kopf bis Fuß auf Liebe eingestellt", "While My Lady Sleeps" and "Irgendwo auf der Welt" are transported into our time in this way. Unforgettable hits from film soundtracks such as "Der blaue Engel", "Die drei von der Tankstelle", "Ein Lied für Dich" or evergreens from the repertoire of the Comedian Harmonists are presented by an opulent ensemble of 25 musicians comprising a big band and vocal ensemble in tailor-made arrangements: as modern jazz, avant-garde or hits - but always in the sound of the Bundesjazzorchester.
The artistic director of this remarkable music project is Niels Klein. He has been part of the Bujazzo team since 2012 and performs as a saxophonist and clarinettist at national and international festivals. In addition to numerous projects of his own, the ECHO and WDR Jazz Award winner has also been a professor of jazz saxophone at the Cologne University of Music and Dance since 2016.
The Bujazzo is supported by the German Music Council, which has been committed to the interests of a total of 15 million musicians in Germany since 1953 and has developed into the world's largest national umbrella organisation for music culture. The Bundesjazzorchester receives its basic funding from the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, the Gesellschaft zur
the Society for the Exploitation of Neighbouring Rights, the Mercedes Benz Group AG and Westdeutscher
broadcasting corporation.
