Roman bath under St. Pelagius
Beschreibung
The first station of the Roman tour are large Roman baths that were discovered when the Pelagius church was rebuilt in the late 19th century. Probably, these were the baths belonging to the military camp that was located close to where the church is today. After the soldiers left the town, the baths were used as public baths of the antique town of Arae Flaviae that was located along the mountain ridge between the rivers Neckar and Prim. Today, you can visit the church to view the hypocaust system (floor heating) of the baths. The entry door is located outside the choir. In front of the main entrance, you’ll see a replica of the large labrum (water basin) found there. The original can be seen at the Dominican Museum.
